Holiday Gift Guide 2018

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

Over the past year I feel like I've gotten to know some of you so well! Not here necessarily (its been a minute since I posted) but the people I've met and gotten to know through instagram are wonderful! I was happily surprised that some of you were interested in a holiday guide from me, so I pulled the basics together here for you to take a look at!

Holiday Gifts for the pasta enthusiast

1. Mastering Pasta by Marc Vetri 2. Bowl Scrapers 3. Expandable Dough Divider 4. Reversible Biscuit Cutters 5. Ravioli Stamp 6. Marcato Pasta Roller 7. Ravioli and Tortellini Starter Set 8. Corzetti Stamp 9. Garganelli Board 10. Brass Pasta Cutter 11. Flour and Water Cookbook 12. Spider Strainer

First, I want to start by encouraging you to SHOP SMALL. I know its pretty last minute for christmas gifts, but check and see if your town has a local cooking shop, odds are they'll carry some pasta making supplies and that would be a great place to start. I also get that its close to christmas, so 2 day shipping is ideal, which is why many of these links are amazon links. I'm going to suggest high/lo options for some of these, but I will say this, some of the fancier things on here are such high quality pieces, they're worth it because they'll last forever.

The first thing I want to talk about is the pasta roller. My favorite brand is Marcato, they make amazing, high quality machines. My pasta machine, the Pasta Queen, is a 30 year old model of theirs and works like a dream. I get that they can be expensive, so I'm here to suggest Ebay and Etsy as a source for finding vintage machines that work just as well as something new! I'm fortunate to own both the pink one above, and the pasta queen, and the biggest difference is that the pink one up there can make SUPER thin sheets. But both work great and I love them.

Lets talk about Corzetti Stamps next. The design I showed above is kind of a standard one, and therefore can be found at relatively inexpensive prices. BUT there are some amazing people out there that make the most beautiful, hand carved, even custom designs. Something to keep in mind maybe? I have my eye on this bee design from Romagnoli Pasta Tools. I would also suggest following them on instagram, you'll be inspired everyday.

Finally (I've got a busy day ahead of me, and could talk pasta all day) I want to talk about that fancy brass cutter up there. There are plenty of fluted pastry wheels that are FINE for cutting pasta. BUT, this is 100% worth it. It actually cuts the pasta, its pretty sharp, and makes such beautiful crisp lines. Once you get it, you probably wont be able to go back. I mean I do sometimes, but its just not the same. Here is a link to your basic fluted pastry cutter. And more excitingly, I have an instagram friend who sells beautiful sardinian pasta cutters, something I'm also looking into for this christmas. So keep that in mind too!

I'll share more pasta makers and tools on instagram over the next few days in my story! Feel free to message me if you have any questions of recommendations! And in case you don't follow me on instagram, you can find me there at @100daysofpasta !

Have a safe and happy holiday season, thank you all for an amazing year, stay tuned for some big plans I have for 2019!
