The 100 Day Project

June 2, 2017

So I'm officially committing to doing a 100 day project.  Its a simple concept - you choose an action that you'll do for 100 days, (typically they're more traditionally artsy, like sketching painting or some kind of craft) then you post a photo on instagram everyday of your action using a unique hashtag.  The unique hashtag lets people see your whole project all at once and the progress you're making.  You can also check out the project hashtag #100dayproject to see what people all over the world are doing (its awesome).

Now, the official start of the 100 day project was April 4th... I'm a little late.  But this timing works well for me, so I'm not worried about it.  I am also changing the rules for myself, because why not.

I'll be making 100 days of (handmade) pasta and I'm going to try not to be too repetitive shape-wise because its kind of cheating and there are so many shapes out there.  I'm not going to eat pasta everyday (as wonderful as that sounds) my goal is to make it at least 5 times a week.  I'm going to make different quantities too, the minimum I'll make is a single serving (aka one giant ravioli).  Finally, I don't have to cook it every night, I can save it and cook it another time.

I want to do this project because I love cooking and recently have gotten really into making pasta.   My day job allows me to be creative and use my hands, and while there are times I like sitting at home and doing nothing, I also really like having projects to do after work.  In the winter I knit and bake, in the summer I cook and occasionally attempt to exercise, so if I cut out one of those things I should have plenty of time (hint: its probably exercise)  This will also give me an excuse to find out things about making pasta that I've had trouble finding online- things like what do different types of flour really do to pasta, how many eggs/yolks should I be using, and I'll share all kinds of shapes you can make without a roller or any fancy tools.

Hopefully, you'll give pasta making a shot too - it seems daunting, but trust me, its easier than it looks.  Wish me luck!
